Avoid divorce at all costs! Divorce is rarely the solution for a problem-plagued marriage.
1) Communicate with each other.
A break-down of communication is what usually leads a husband and wife to think about divorce. Spend 20 minutes in the evening talking to each other about how your day went and what you expect to do tomorrow. Avoid divorce simply by talking to one another.
2) Consider your spouse's feelings.
How often do you think about what your spouse feels or thinks? What would make that person feel good about him or herself? Was your answer, "Almost never" or "I don't know?" If so, that's the problem!
Marriage needs give and take, and the giving is by far the hardest part. Give your attention, give your thoughts, give your actions.
Listen to him talk about the football statistics, think about what she would like to do on Friday night, cook a good meal for him instead of bringing home Kentucky Fried Chicken again.
3) Watch your finances.
More marriages break up because of money stress than infidelity. Yet, divorce only compounds the problem!
First, live within your means. Don't charge things on credit cards if you can't pay off the balance the next month.
Sit down together and create your budget, and be sure you both agree on how the money will be allocated. Plan for the things you want and save up for them.
